Knowing more about martial arts weapons

Martial art involves a series of practices and techniques meant for self-defence purposes. It will benefit not only for individuals but also for people who work in military and law enforcement departments. The martial arts involve different types such as Karate, Kung-Fu, Judo, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, and so on. They may vary with a country and one should know more about them in detail. For example, Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art practised in Japan for defeating enemies who use certain types of weapons. Most martial arts utilize some weapons in order to enhance the skills of a person significantly.

However, it is important to use them carefully for preventing injuries and other problems while practising with others. There are different types of weapons utilized for martial arts training purposes which aim at enhancing the performance levels of practitioners.

1. Nunchaku

Nunchaku is the most common type of weapon used in karate and other martial arts for making quick movements. Modern-day nunchaku weapons are available in a variety of materials enabling users to focus more on their abilities.

They are two wood sticks connected by a rope or chain that help to increase the hand speed during the defending process. Another thing is that it contributes more to improve the posture of a person with high success rates. It is a useful training weapon that gives ways to gain more advantages.

2. Sai

Sai is another weapon mostly used in self-defence training that allows a person to disarm or block an armed attacker with striking techniques. It is the first okanawian weapon which consists of two curved prongs in a prong shaped metal baton.

The shaft of the sai weapon is either round or faceted enabling users to handle the same with smoothness. One should hold the weapon by gripping the shaft or handle with all fingers. In fact, he or she should put pressures on the thumbs and rotate the weapon until it is facing backwards. Furthermore, users must align the weapon with the handle while fighting with others.

3. Handheld fighting fans

Fighting fans are popular martial arts weapons used in Chinese martial arts and some of the Japanese arts. They are usually made from different types of metals and other materials including woods which feature beautiful designs.

Women can benefit a lot from the weapons because they act a signalling device enabling them to get high protection from attackers. The handled fighting fans are available in various types such as gunsen, tessen, gunbai, etc. All of them are a suitable one for distracting unsuspecting opponents with high speed.

4. Kama

Kama is a type of traditional martial art weapon meant for those who want to defend against opponents with arms such as swords or long weapons. It is a weapon designed based on farming equipment and one can use the same in pairs.

Both basic and advanced Kama weapons are available in the markets today that fulfil the expectations of users. A typical Kama weapon will enable a person to block an oncoming strike and using the other for counterattacking purposes.

Apart from that, a person can utilize both a pair of Kama for trapping the weapons of an opponent significantly. The flying Kama is the latest one that provides ways to swing the same at greater speeds. On the other hand, beginners should consider using a weapon that comes with wood or foam materials.

5. Tonfa

Tonfa is a terrifying traditional Okinawan weapon used in China and Japan for self-defence applications. The weapon consists of a stick which comes with a perpendicular stick allowing a person to utilize it for striking and blocking purposes.

Most weapons are primarily made from wood materials with welded pairs. In addition, the length of the handle is from 380 to 510 mm long available in three grips thereby showing ways to obtain the best results. It gives ways to brace along one’s forearms with protected grip.

Marital arts practitioners can use the weapon as a hook which is similar to the Kama attacking. It swings faster to strike an opponent from a slight distance to get more safety.

6. Throwing stars

The throwing stars are a special type of martial arts weapons used in Japan and other countries. They are also called “ninja stars” that come in a variety of shapes and sizes with sharpened edges. Although Shuriken stars are a famous one in the markets, some major varieties are also available for martial arts purposes.

Some of them include Bo Shuriken and Hira Shuriken which provide more comforts to users. Both weapons will hit target certain parts of the body such as eyes, feet, hands, chest, and feet which can cause a distraction to opponents. The modern Shuriken weapons are often made of stainless steel and one can buy them from leading shops in the USA and other countries.
